Senior Resources, a non-profit organization, has four community Wellness Centers, in Columbia, Blythewood, Eastover and Hopkins. The Wellness Centers host physical fitness programs and other activities daily. At the Bishop Avenue Wellness Center in Columbia, classes include Walking, Stretching, Balance and more.

The Columbia Parks & Recreation Dept. has exercise classes and clubs available at its facilities, like Line Dance and a Fitness Club. Arthritis Exercise Classes are low-impact, and designed for those with limited mobility. They take place at multiple locations. The Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission offers safe, accessible recreation programs specifically designed for men and women ages 50 and older. There are several Shepherd’s Centers in this area – on Ashland Road, Trenholm Road and West Beltline in Columbia, and on E. Main Street in Lexington. The Shepherd’s Centers are a network of community-based centers that work to provide learning, fitness and social opportunities for older citizens. The Shepherd’s Center of Columbia on Trenholm Road offers classes like Yoga for Older Adults, and Tai Chi for good balance and circulation.
