If you have extra time to give and are interested in assisting our area’s growing population of citizens over the age of 65, consider volunteering with Senior Resources. Senior Resources is a non-profit organization that provides support and services to thousands of seniors in the Midlands area. In 2017 they celebrated 50 years of empowering older residents to remain healthy, independent, and in their own homes.
Volunteering for Meals On Wheels involves packing and/or delivering food, and with meal distribution sites located all over the area, you’re sure to find one that’s convenient for you. One-time volunteers, volunteers who want to deliver on a weekly or monthly basis, families who want to volunteer together, even local businesses – all are welcome to “adopt” a delivery route. Senior Resources has recently begun construction on a new, 900-square foot Meals on Wheels site on Millwood Avenue, that once built will provide a larger space for volunteers to pack and pick up meals for delivery. For many seniors, the Meals On Wheels program provides not only sustenance, but companionship. Volunteers make a difference in the lives of older residents by delivering necessities as well as a friendly visit.
Call Senior Resources about these and other volunteer opportunities at 803-252-7734. Help is needed at Senior Resources’ four community Wellness Centers, to assist with activities or to lead classes, and if you enjoy event planning, Senior Resources can use your help with annual functions like the March for Meals 5K Run and Walk, and the organization’s Gala event.
