Day Trippin’: Walterboro, SC

From Columbia, head south on I-26 East for 55 miles, then merge onto I-95 South until you reach exit 57 onto SC-64 towards Walterboro. One way, your trip is right around an hour and a half— perfect for a day trip!


SC Artisans Center
Housed in a restored eight room Victorian cottage, the center showcases over 300 of the finest Carolina artists, emphasizing traditional and indigenous folk art and contemporary crafts.  It features educational exhibits, craft demonstrations and live performances by artists. This is a great opportunity to introduce grandchildren to art and crafts. They’ll love the funny pottery characters and wood-crafted dinosaurs toys. There are so many crafts to choose from (ornaments, glass work, jewelry, sea grass baskets, paintings) ranging from few dollars to thousands. Each piece is unique!  The Back Porch Cafe is under construction and should be open Spring 2018, serving coffee, pastries and light lunches to Center guests. Antique Shops
Walterboro is home to 10 antique shops only 5 minutes apart. With its four out of five star TripAdvisor rating, Bachelor Hill Antiques is known for its quirky items like wooden carved animals and a 19th century book press. They also have period specific furniture and beautiful pieces of art from oil paintings to 3D sculptures. Just a short drive down East Washington sits another shop, Antiques & Collectibles of Walterboro. This store provides customers with a friendly staff to help locate wooden carved dough bowls and colorful glassware. These two shops are highly rated in the area because of their extraordinary pieces, ready to purchase or just walk around and view. Both stores are located in the 200 block of East Washington Street Walterboro, SC 29488 and are open from 10:00am- 5:00pm, Monday- Saturday.
