Provides fun Recreational Music Making group classes in which students learn basic piano techniques through class activities, and you don’t have to own a piano! If you are more serious about playing, they also provide an intensive two-semester course in which students learn piano technique, staff reading, rhythmic reading, and more, requiring daily practice and the ownership of a piano/keyboard. Congaree New Horizons Band: If you are age 50+, you can play with a concert band! No prior musical experience is required to join the Congaree New Horizons Band. Each practice session includes full group rehearsals and small group and individual instruction. The band performs two to four concerts per semester at various locations in the Columbia Metropolitan area. USC’s Congaree New Horizons Band is affiliated with New Horizons International Music Association, an organization that encourages seniors to learn and make music with friends.
