MERCER HOUSE ESTATE WINERY Change your mind about Muscadine wine. There is a surprising variety of wines vinted with Muscadine grapes. Shannon Mercer, vintner, wants to be clear that not all muscadine wines are syrupy and sweet. This Lexington County winery specializes in various types of Muscadine wines.

VICTORIA VALLEY VINEYARDS
In the Upstate of South Carolina near Caesars Head State Park (see page 24), Victoria Valley specializes in European Vinifera wines. As you pull through the gates you peer at the winery, styled after a French chateau. Here, the Jayne family cultivates 9 French varietals on about 20 acres. Visitors can relax on the terrace and enjoy a vineyard view and lunch from their cafe, which serves sandwiches, salads, and other small dishes. For $5 you can sample 5 different wines. Gift shop on site.

Irvin~House Vineyards is Charleston’s only domestic vineyard and winery. They grow four varieties of Muscadine grapes, and create five different labels. You are invited to visit them on Wadmalaw Island. You may taste all five wines and keep your souvenir glass for $5.00. Afterwards, you may choose a glass or bottle of your favorite to enjoy on their expansive vineyard.
